Older Inglewood houses take longer to clean

Much of Inglewood was built in the years before and just after the Second World War. Morningside Park and Fairview Heights are full of Spanish-style houses and bungalows with plaster walls and built-in cabinets. The neighborhoods nearer the airport filled in later with stucco houses and small apartment buildings. These are solid houses. They also have far more ledges and corners than a new build, and every one of them collects dust.

Old tile is where most of the work goes. Many of these bathrooms still have their original small tile, which means far more grout per wall than a modern bath. Grout is porous. Leave it for a few months and soap film and skin oil settle in and turn it gray. At that point a quick wipe will not bring it back. Old hardwood needs care too, since a soaking mop on a worn finish can raise the grain.

So on an older house we usually suggest starting with a deep clean. That first visit is where we scrub the grout and dust the tops of door frames, the jobs nobody has time for in a busy week. After that, a standard clean on a regular schedule keeps the house where the deep clean left it. If your place is newer or already in good shape, a standard clean may be all it needs, and we will say so.

Airport traffic leaves grime on Inglewood sills

Inglewood sits right next to the airport, and planes coming in to land pass low over a large part of the city. People who live under that path know the fine dark film that settles on window sills and patio furniture. It is oily rather than dusty, so a dry cloth only smears it around. It needs a proper cleaner and a rinse. It also comes back, so on a house near the flight path the sills and window tracks get cleaned on every visit.

The ocean is close enough that Inglewood gets the gray marine layer on many mornings from late spring into summer. That damp air is easy on people and hard on older bathrooms. After a windy stretch you can see it on the blinds and in a gray line along the floor by the back door. We spend extra time on both after those weeks. We also dust high surfaces like the tops of cabinets, where it sits unseen until someone reaches up.
